Hanna Somatic Education

Hanna Somatic Education is a form of neuromuscular and sensory-motor education developed by Thomas Hanna. It focuses on the relationship between the nervous system, muscular activity and movement, supporting greater awareness and voluntary control of habitual movement patterns. Through slow, gentle and precise movements, participants are invited to sense how they move, recognise unnecessary muscular effort, and explore more efficient and adaptable movement strategies. Rather than passive stretching or working toward a particular shape, the practice emphasises sensory feedback, motor learning and the ability to regulate muscular tension from within. Each class explores different areas and movement patterns of the body, including the spine, pelvis, shoulders, neck and limbs. The practice includes pauses and moments of rest to allow time for sensing and integrating the movement experience. Suitable for all levels and no previous experience is required.
